The Austen Riggs Center Nursery School is seeking a warm, collaborative, EEC-certified Preschool Teacher to help create a safe, engaging, and high-quality learning experience for young children.

This is a meaningful opportunity to join a mission-driven early childhood program that serves preschool-aged children, while offering psychiatric patients an educational training experience in child development. Under the guidance of the Nursery School Director and Lead Teacher, you will help deliver a developmentally appropriate curriculum and foster hands-on learning in a compassionate, inclusive environment.

The Nursery School follows the public-school calendar and offers a summer session each year. School breaks and holidays are unpaid.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build warm, playful, and supportive relationships with preschool children.
  • Bring a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum to life through provocations and rich, sensory-based materials.
  • Support teacher aides and staff through mentoring, classroom management guidance, behavior strategies, and relationship-building approaches.
  • Model confidentiality, professional boundaries, and cultural competency in all interactions.
  • Help strengthen the program through continuous improvement and alignment with quality indicators and patient satisfaction goals.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Someone who loves working with children.
  • B.S. in Early Childhood Education preferred;significant preschool teaching experiencealso considered.
  • Three to five years of experience in an early childhood education setting.
  • Teacherqualificationthrough the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
  • Experience supervisingor mentoringteacher aides preferred.
  • A collaborative approach to mentoring, team teaching, and communication.
  • A warm, calm, and dynamic presence with the ability to balance compassion and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills and openness to receiving and applying feedback.
  • In collaborationwiththe lead teacher, helpplan, organize, and present curriculum fora class ofup to 16 students.
  • CPR and First Aidcertification.
  • Ability tomaintainan EEC Professional Qualification Registrythroughrequired professional development and annual mandatedtrainings.
  • Qualified candidatesmustpass a full EEC Background Records Check beforehire.
