Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise for vessel construction and repair. This position develops practical, cost-effective mechanical engineering solutions while collaborating with internal departments, customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project execution. This role provides office-based design support and hands-on shipyard support to verify installations, resolve issues, and ensure mechanical, piping, and machinery systems meet requirements, standards, and regulations.

 

Domestic travel may be required.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop and review mechanical, piping, and machinery engineering deliverables (calculations, drawings, specifications, ECNs)
  • Design and support mechanical, piping, and machinery systems for construction and repair while ensuring regulatory requirements
  • Provide support reviewing installations, answering questions, and assisting with tests and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate with internal departments, customers and vendors to support schedule, budget and delivery
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Ability to develop complex schematics, modify complex mechanical drawings, piping and machinery diagrams, and system layouts
  • Strong knowledge of marine mechanical systems and applicable ABS classification rules, USCG regulations, SOLAS requirements, U.S. Navy standards, and other applicable marine codes and standards.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Cadmatic, ShipConstructor, or similar 2D/3D CAD software for marine mechanical systems, piping, machinery, and equipment design
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
  • Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
  • Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMG and have high values for safety awareness

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 6 Years of experience required
  • Six Sigma or LEAN certification preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The position is primarily performed in a quiet, climate-controlled environment with minimal exposure to moving equipment, elements, or risk of injury.
