Process Technician

Job Scope

This position is responsible for the startup and dial in of machines once the mold set is complete. Process Technicians maintain processes throughout the production run to ensure that standards are met.  They are also responsible for maintaining cycle times to the set standard and report out if cycle times aren’t achievable and why. Process Technicians also set up and adjust any equipment for secondary operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up, start, and operate blow molding machines and related auxiliary equipment. 
• Monitor the blow molding process and adjust machine parameters to maintain consistent production. 
• Make process adjustments for temperature, pressure, speed, cycle time, parison programming, and other critical settings. 
• Perform mold changes, machine setups, and changeovers according to production requirements. 
• Troubleshoot molding defects such as flash, short shots, wall-thickness variation, warping, sink marks, and dimensional issues. 
• Inspect first-off and production parts to verify they meet customer and quality specifications. 
• Use gauges, calipers, and other measuring equipment to verify part dimensions. 
• Monitor material usage, resin conditions, and proper material handling. 
• Maintain proper machine cycle times and optimize processes to improve productivity and reduce scrap. 
• Assist with startup and shutdown procedures and ensure equipment is operating safely. 
• Identify equipment or process abnormalities and communicate issues to Maintenance, Quality, and Production leadership. 
• Work with Maintenance to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and temperature-control issues. 
• Document process settings, production results, downtime, scrap, and quality concerns. 
• Support root-cause investigations and corrective actions for recurring molding problems. 
• Train and assist machine operators with proper process procedures and quality requirements. 
• Follow work instructions, control plans, safety procedures, and customer-specific requirements.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles.
• Support continuous improvement activities focused on cycle time, scrap reduction, quality, and machine efficiency. 
• Ensure production meets safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required. 
• 1-3 years prior experience in a high volume, manufacturing environment, preferably in blow molding is required
• 2-4 years prior experience as a blow-molding process technician required. 
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles is highly desired 
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is highly desired
• Bilingual in Spanish and English, is highly desired   
• Basic reading and communication skills in English is required
• Ability to interpret a variety of gauges and measurement instrumentation. 
• Use reading and writing, adding and subtracting of whole numbers; direct reading of instruments and similar devices where interpretation is not required. 
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills are required. 
• Self-motivated and results oriented.
