Overview:
The GIS Analyst I supports the maintenance, accuracy, and usability of the organization’s geospatial data and mapping systems. This role applies foundational GIS principles and analysis to data management, quality control, map production, and user support, ensuring reliable spatial information is available to internal teams across water utility operations, engineering, and planning.Â
What You'll Do:
- Perform GIS data entry and maintenance through digitization, scanning, and field data collection using GPS units, applying established data standards and validation practices.
- Design and produce standard and ad hoc cartographic products, exhibits, graphs, and charts to support engineering, operations, and other departments.
- Conduct quality control and quality assurance checks to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of GIS data and attributes.
- Incorporate CAD-based data (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, or similar platforms) into GIS datasets, interpreting source data and applying GIS standards to ensure proper integration.
- Use GIS applications (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS) to enter, edit, manage, analyze, and display spatial information related to utility assets and infrastructure.
- Assist with data migration activities and support the maintenance of GIS metadata and documentation to promote data integrity, consistency, and usability across GIS workflows.
- Provide user support and guidance related to GIS data, custom mapping products, and standard GIS applications.
- Knowledge of fundamental GIS concepts, including spatial data structures, map projections, and basic spatial analysis techniques.
- Proficiency with ESRI GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, and related tools).
- Familiarity with GIS data quality control practices and metadata standards.
- Working understanding of database concepts, including relational data structures, as they apply to GIS data management.
- Ability to interpret and incorporate CAD data into GIS environments.
- Understanding of UML concepts and exposure to ArcSDE geodatabases, including domains and subtypes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established data standards and workflows.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal users and respond to data or mapping requests.Â
What You'll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Cartography, Geography, or a related field.Â
3+ years of professional or internship experience in a GIS or spatial data role.Â
Work Environment:
This role is performed in a combination of office and field environments.Â
Field work may include exposure to outdoor weather conditions.Â
Ability to travel locally as needed and use standard office and field equipment.Â
Physical requirements may include prolonged sitting or standing, walking on uneven surfaces, and occasional lifting (up to approximately 25 pounds).Â
