QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High School graduate or equivalent
Experience/Skills
- One year hospital or other healthcare experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Required Licenses/Certifications
- CPR
- Certified Nursing Assistant preferred but not required (if working OB it is required)

ROUTINE RESPONSIBILITIES
Behavioral Expectations
- Consistently complies with established Behavioral Expectations
Paperwork/Documentation Responsibilities
- Accurately inputs orders into computer as deemed appropriate
- Sends copy of orders to pharmacy in timely manner
- Maintains accurate census information
- Keeps old and current charts in order
- Assembles new charts and labels all forms
- Maintains Daily Forms: Charge cards, etc.
- Readies paperwork/chart for patient transfer
- Prepares chart for medical records upon patient discharge or transfer
- Maintains logbooks as requested
- Send forms to Physicians as required or requested
- Pages physicians
- Accurately flags charts with pertinent data (i.e., allergies, fluid restrictions, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
Receptionist Duties
- Professionally, concisely, and accurately handles incoming/outgoing communications on the nursing unit
- Relays phone messages to appropriated people
- Directs visitors to patients
- Communicates patient needs to appropriate persons
- Assumes responsibility for coordinating and maintaining a satisfactory physical environment on the unit
- Notifies Patient Access of patient discharges and transfers to new rooms
- Notifies Food & Nutritional Services of menu changes, admissions and discharges
- Prepare all charts for Physician Rounds as needed
- Receives lab values over phone and reports to nurses as indicated
- Informs appropriate persons of stat and now orders
- Orders required requisition forms and chart forms
- Assists in inventory as requested
Nursing Assistant Duties (OB)
- Set up delivery tables using sterile technique
- Post delivery break down and instrument count
- Cleans patient rooms
- Answers call lights
- Ensure presence of prenatals and obtain as needed
- Transport patients from registration to unit
- Transport patients off unit as needed
- Schedule 2-day follow-ups with doctor
- Assist RN with patient care as needed
- Provide nursery sitting
- Obtain paperwork for birth certificates
- Entering information into Centricity

Miscellaneous
- Participates in orientation of new personnel
- Participating in unit/hospital PI/QI as assigned
- Puts up stock
- Completes incident reports as indicated in timely manner
- Reports on all patient family complaints to Department Director or House Supervisor in timely fashion
- Supports Nursing Services by demonstrating flexibility with schedules and job duties.
