The Discovery Schools Behavior Specialist assesses, develops, and implements plans to improve the behavioral, social, and emotional functioning of individuals. This individual works closely with school staff, parents, and districts to create plans and provide interventions that reduce maladaptive behavior and teach positive, adaptive skills.

Deep knowledge and understanding of behavioral issues is necessary.

Salary is commensurate with experience and training. Range: $60,000 - 65,000 plus bonus two times per year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessments: Perform functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to identify the causes of challenging behaviors.
  • Treatment Plans: Create, implement, and update individualized behavior intervention plans.
  • Intervention: Provide direct, one-on-one therapy or group counseling to improve coping skills and behaviors.
  • Collaboration: Consult with parents, teachers, and other professionals to implement consistent strategies.
  • Data Collection: Track and analyze data to monitor progress and adjust interventions accordingly
  • Crisis Management: Lead team to address students in crisis.

Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, special education, social work, or a related field is preferred but other degrees will be consider with experience.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with behavioral challenges (e.g., autism, emotional disorders) is required.
  • Certification: 
    • Required: Bachelor’s degree. Possess or obtain Mild/Moderate Cross Categorical certification within 30 days of hire.
    • Preferred: Licensure in Social Work or BCBA.

    • Excellent communication
    • High level of professionalism
    • Organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations
    • Deep understanding of behavioral causes and manifestations
