Job Description Summary:

Provide supervision of Lab for a designated shift/area, to include personnel, procedure, instrumentation, compliance with regulatory agencies under the direction of the Laboratory Director/Manager. Expected to perform Technical duties and to perform phlebotomy duties as needed. May serve as a delegating technologist to a competent MLT on the same shift and be responsible for his/her work. May orient and train new employees. May act as a designated person in charge.

Job Summary Provide supervision of Lab for a designated shift/area, to include personnel, procedure, instrumentation, compliance with regulatory agencies under the direction of the Laboratory Director/Manager. Expected to perform Technical duties and to perform phlebotomy duties as needed. May serve as a delegating technologist to a competent MLT on the same shift and be responsible for his/her work. Qualifications 2 year / Associate Degree in Medical Technology. (Required) 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology. (Preferred) Work Experience 1-year Clinical Laboratory Experience (Required) Licenses and Certifications Required Certifications/Licensures: Certification by ASCP, AMT, AAB, or other agency approved by the hiring department (Required) Essential Functions SHIFT/AREA SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide assistance to the laboratory department. Provides supervision and support to employees on his/her shift/area. Assures that tests are conducted within established standards on shift worked. Produces accurate results according to established procedures. Correlates and interprets data. Monitors the quality assurance system, to include quality control of services, and performs required staff competency assessments as needed. Documents work performed and recognizes abnormal and critical results. Performs all duties of an MLT/MT on the shift, as qualified. Handles all issues and problems that arise on shift and conveys the outcome to the department supervisor or director. DOCUMENTATION: Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion. Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc. Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users. Uses correct terminology. Conforms to required style and format. TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT USE: Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role. Understands equipment operation. Maintains equipment in working order. Troubleshoots equipment problems. Uses technology to increase productivity. Adapts to new technology Additional Duties Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines. Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization. Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures. Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs). Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time. Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills. Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
