Qnity’s Silicon Valley Technology Center

The Qnity Silicon Valley Technology Center (SVTC) is a place where customers find end-to-end support solving their most critical and complicated electronic materials challenges. SVTC is Qnity’s premier applications development & engineering center of excellence located in the heart of Silicon Valley, with more than 10,000 square feet of state-of-the-art application laboratories spanning rapid prototyping, reliability testing, process development, and advanced analytical characterization, the team of engineers working at SVTC has all the resources they need to help customers solve their problems. As a leverage research & development organization, engineers at SVTC get to work with all of Qnity’s vast materials portfolio, with a local market focus in emerging domains such as consumer electronics, humanoid robotics, aerospace & defense, next gen automotive, and semiconductor industries.

Associate Engineer Role & Responsibilities

The engineer specializing in prototyping & fabrication is expected to be the on-site subject matter expert in a diverse range of prototyping and fabrication techniques, including the development of advanced and novel fabrication methods serving a diverse and dynamic project portfolio of applications development work typical for SVTC. The successful candidate will lead fabrication components of critical projects and assist in the testing and characterization of fabricated products.

Primary & Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engineer specializing in prototyping and fabrication techniques, including development of advanced/non-standard methods for unique applications
  • Adept at hands-on lab work, creative thinking, problem solving in a unique and fast-paced applications engineering laboratory environment
  • Perform tasks and lead fabrication projects primarily involving 3D printing, CNC milling, large format routing, and lamination
  • Work closely with team of engineers / technical specialists in support of a broad project portfolio, including optical, thermal, and mechanical characterization
  • Basic data analysis and statistics experience is expected
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member with a diverse group of people


Required Qualifications:

  • Required: B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or other machinist curriculum and experience that required significant hands-on training
  • Preferred: 1-3 years of hands-on experience working in a laboratory with fabrication/prototyping equipment
  • Experience working with basic shop tools
  • Experience working with CNC mill and 3D printers
  • Experience using CAD and CAM software, such as SolidWorks, including the ability to produce professional engineering drawings

  • Experience with basic materials characterization and metrology equipment, such as stress-strain testers, confocal microscopes, etc. is preferred
  • Well organized, attention to detail, excellent presentation/communication skills
  • Curiosity and excitement to learn beyond assignments, excellent problem-solving skills
