The Legal Department provides core legal support to all Dolby functions, runs several IP-centric businesses, and leads government relations.

 

We are looking to recruit interns in the video coding standards innovation team. The qualified candidate will develop novel video compression technology using learning-based algorithms to conventional video compression that enable the next generation of Dolby technologies. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement innovative neural network/learning-based algorithm for learned transform in conventional video coding. 

  • Document and present the new algorithms and implementations in various forms, such as technical white papers, etc.  

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Video Compression standard such as H.265/HEVC, H.266/VVC, and beyond.  

  • In-depth expertise in deep learning (DL) and statistical machine learning (ML) 

  • Extensive programming experience in python/C/C++ applied to image/video coding/processing and experience with one or more deep learning frameworks e.g., PyTorch, is required. 

  • Solid research background in image/video processing and image/video coding, or related fields. Proven track record of publications in first-tier conferences and/or journals a plus.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong team player.  

 

Eligibility: 

 

Working towards PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Recent graduates (within 6 months of graduation) are eligible. Must be available to work full-time Monday – Friday for 6 months between September 2026- March 2027. 

 

Start dates for the internship are as follows: (*note* this date is not flexible) 

  • September 21, 2026 

 

 

The San Francisco/Bay Area base hourly range for this internship position is $55-62/hr and can vary if outside of this location. Our hourly ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
