Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging).
  • 1 year of experience with state of the art GenAI techniques (e.g., LLMs, Multi-Modal, Large Vision Models) or with GenAI-related concepts (language modeling, computer vision).
  • Experience with data analysis, statistical modeling, and translating complex data into actionable insights.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience in Applied Machine Learning, in teams directly responsible for business metrics on user-facing products.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • A background in a safety, abuse-fighting or integrity role at an Internet company.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Assess threats to Gmail users from new technologies like GenAI and design appropriate safeguards in advance.
  • Drive key improvements through machine learning algorithms and systems innovations.
  • Design, run, and evaluate experiments for training GenAI models with the goal of improving Gmail abuse detection. Build production-ready ML systems that are both high-performing and scalable.
  • Work across research and engineering teams to build ML signals, techniques and infrastructure to protect Gmail users including enterprise customers. Collaborate with data science, product, and operation teams to stay at the forefront of abuse trends and risks.
