Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Sterile Processing Supervisor to supervise certified central services technicians to prepare and track all sterilization of equipment and instruments in an accurate and timely manner.  Assists central services techs in training to adhere to AAMI, AORN standards.  Supervises operating room case carts, sterile trays and supplies for the operating room as well as the rest of the hospital as needed.  Updates count sheets for every instrument tray.  Tracks IUS and sterilization logs and decreases IUS rates.  Responsible for creating cost-effective methods within the department and working with the inventory control coordinator.  Supervises students in the sterile processing area.  Responsible for maintaining and reporting monthly sterilization data to the Director of Surgery as well as any added responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Director of Surgery.

  • Understands duties and responsibilities, has necessary functional and technical knowledge for task completion, keeps job knowledge current, applies knowledge and skills that lead to success in the department.
  • Effectively applies background and experience to current role.  Keeps informed of latest developments/laws related to sterile processing.
  • Demonstrates integrity and ethics in day-to-day tasks and decision making, adheres to TRMC core values, and operates effectively in the TRMC environment.
  • Prioritizes well, manages time effectively, shows energy and a sense of urgency, reacts to opportunities, and instills urgency in others.  Concentrates efforts on the more important priorities first.
  • Attends to a broad range of activities and completes them efficiently.  Accurately scopes out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; sets objectives and goals to complete tasks.
  • Keeps information organized and accessible, maintains clean/functional work space, works systematically/efficiently, manages time well.  Supervises the time management of others.
  • Communicates well both verbally and in writing, has good listening skills, builds strong relationships, is flexible/open-minded, negotiates effectively, solicits performance feedback and handles
  • Supervises the decontamination/sterilization of instruments and equipment.  Ensures specialty carts are stocked and ready for immediate use.
  • Performs quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure sterilization equipment and instruments are functioning properly.  
  • Inspects equipment, instruments and packaging for cleanliness, defects, and/or malfunctions.  Oversees documentation and labeling of sterilization cycles/packages.
  • Demonstrates use of correct surgical attire. Dresses appropriately for working in the OR environment.
  • Follows and teaches AORN/AAMI/JCAHO guidelines for sterilization processes.  Supervises others carrying out these processes.
  • HS diploma or GED. Sterile processing class, preferred.  
  • Certification as a sterile processing technician from AAAMI accredited entity preferred
  • BLS from AHA. 
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a supervisory role; minimum 3-5 years in sterile processing
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Additional languages preferred. 
  • Basic computer knowledge.
