What you'll do...
Role summary:The Senior Manager, Applied AI – Spark Pricing & Incentives leads the development and deployment of AI-powered production systems that optimize Spark driver pricing and incentives for Walmart's Last Mile Delivery platform. The role drives the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning and optimization solutions, from design and experimentation to production deployment and continuous improvement. Partnering with Business, Product, and Engineering, the Senior Manager translates business needs into scalable AI systems that deliver measurable impact. The role also provides technical leadership, mentors data scientists and machine learning engineers, and establishes best practices for building reliable, production-grade AI solutions.
About the team:
The Applied AI Last Mile Delivery team develops advanced machine learning, reinforcement learning, optimization, and decision intelligence solutions that power Walmart's Spark Driver platform. The team builds scalable, production-grade AI systems for Capacity Planning, Routing, Driver Search, Matching, Pricing, Incentives, ETA prediction, and Trust Safety, improving marketplace efficiency, customer experience, and operational performance. Working closely with Business, Product, and Engineering, the team translates complex business problems into AI-driven solutions that drive innovation across Walmart's largest last-mile delivery platform.
What you'll do:
- Lead a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers to build and deploy AI-powered Pricing and Incentive solutions for the Spark Driver platform.
- Partner with Business, Product, and Engineering to define strategy and deliver scalable, production-ready AI systems.
- Drive the end-to-end AI lifecycle, from problem formulation and experimentation to deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
- Develop machine learning, reinforcement learning, and optimization solutions to improve marketplace performance.
- Establish technical direction, architecture, and engineering best practices to ensure reliable, scalable, and maintainable AI systems.
- Mentor and grow a high-performing Applied AI team while delivering measurable business impact through data-driven innovation.
What you'll bring:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- 8+ years of experience building and deploying production AI solutions, including 3+ years of technical leadership or people management.
- Expertise in machine learning, reinforcement learning, optimization, experimentation, and large-scale AI systems.
- Proven ability to partner with Business, Product, and Engineering to deliver measurable impact.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including Python, distributed computing, cloud platforms, and MLOps best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with a passion for mentoring teams and solving complex business problems through AI.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
