What you'll do...

Role summary:
The Software Engineer III will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of software solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management and user experience. This role involves troubleshooting complex issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing sustainable solutions to enhance system performance. The engineer will manage project requirements, write and test code, and support continuous integration and deployment processes. Additionally, the position includes mentoring small engineering groups and ensuring adherence to quality, security, and coding standards while driving innovation and operational excellence within the software development lifecycle.
About the team:
The Walmart Fulfillment Engine (WFE) team delivers accurate fulfillment options across a wide product range, including groceries, entertainment, sporting goods, and crafts. This team develops and maintains applications that determine optimal delivery dates and shipping or pickup choices. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, WFE focuses on scalable, reliable solutions that enhance customer satisfaction. The team embraces continuous improvement by leveraging advanced technologies and best practices to ensure high-quality software aligned with Walmart’s platform and business objectives. Members apply strong technical skills and problem-solving to support seamless customer experiences.
What you'll do:
  • Collaborate with product, project, business, and user experience teams to design high-level solutions for small to medium projects.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve business and production issues through root cause analysis and coordinated action plans.
  • Develop, test, and maintain code ensuring compliance with technical and security standards.
  • Manage complex projects by translating requirements into scalable, maintainable software solutions.
  • Lead and mentor small engineering teams, providing guidance and documentation.
  • Implement automation scripts and telemetry features to support continuous integration and delivery.
  • Monitor application performance and conduct maintenance to ensure reliability and scalability.

What you'll bring:
  • Proven experience in software engineering with strong technical acumen and proficiency in object-oriented programming and API design.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver scalable, maintainable, and high-availability software solutions using iterative and incremental development methodologies.
  • Expertise in debugging, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting complex production issues to ensure system reliability.
  • Skilled in continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices, including automation scripting and telemetry implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and guiding small engineering groups to meet project goals on time.
