The Role

This mission‑critical, on‑call role ensures the safety, continuity, and compliance of GM’s Level 3 autonomous vehicle testing fleet. You’ll lead real‑time incident response, triage on‑road events, and manage end‑to‑end case resolution. This position blends operational leadership, technical troubleshooting, and cross‑functional coordination to protect our fleet, our people, and the public.

  • Coordinate all on-scene and remote response activities to minimize operational disruption.

Triage & Assess Incidents

  • Review collisions, safety events, software faults, and operational anomalies across the AV fleet.

  • Determine severity, ensure accurate documentation, and escalate to the right engineering or operational teams.

Support Technical Diagnosis

  • Partner closely with software, hardware, and systems engineering teams to identify root causes and troubleshoot complex issues.

Drive Cross‑Functional Coordination

  • Align Engineering, Operations, Safety, Legal, Comms, and Executive stakeholders during dynamic incidents.

  • Provide clear, consistent updates and ensure all actions are documented and understood.

Improve Incident Response Processes

  • Enhance tools, workflows, and playbooks to strengthen speed, quality, and communication across all response activities.

Manage Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain thorough incident records and generate insights for Legal, Risk, Regulatory, and Communications teams.

  • Respond to legal requests (subpoenas, warrants), support evidentiary preservation, and ensure adherence to DMV/NHTSA reporting policies.

Train & Mentor Teams

  • Lead onboarding, scenario exercises, and cross-functional trainings that reinforce incident readiness and safety culture throughout the organization.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Deep understanding of incident response frameworks in AV operations or similarly complex transportation/regulated environments

  • 3+ years leading high-severity, cross-functional incident response as an Incident Commander or similar role

  • Proven ability to remain calm, structured, and precise during fast-moving escalations

  • Experience briefing executives in real time, explaining technical issues, impacts, and recommended actions

  • Experience training teams on tools, processes, and incident protocols

  • Ability and willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Degree in Emergency Management, Operations, Business, or a related discipline

  • Experience handling legal/law-enforcement requests and regulatory communications

  • Background in Autonomous Vehicles or other highly regulated, safety-critical industries (Automotive, Aviation, Maritime, Rail, etc.)
