POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Position Overview:Â In this role, you will perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance activities throughout the detention facility to ensure all building systems, infrastructure, and operational equipment remain safe, functional, and compliant with facility detention standards and facility requirements. You will support daily facility operations by addressing maintenance issues involving plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, security fixtures, and general facility infrastructure. This position requires technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently within a secure detention environment while maintaining professionalism and operational safety.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection activities on facility systems including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, lighting, mechanical, and structural components.
- Respond to maintenance requests, operational deficiencies, equipment malfunctions, and emergency repair situations throughout the detention facility.
- Inspect housing units, administrative offices, kitchens, medical areas, security systems, and operational spaces to identify maintenance concerns or safety hazards.
- Operate maintenance tools, diagnostic equipment, power tools, and repair equipment safely and efficiently while following OSHA and facility safety procedures.
- Repair or replace damaged fixtures, doors, locks, lighting systems, plumbing components, flooring materials, and operational equipment as necessary.
- Assist with maintaining facility generators, fire safety systems, water systems, security hardware, and other critical operational infrastructure.
- Maintain inventory accountability for maintenance supplies, repair materials, tools, and operational equipment while reporting shortages or replacement needs.
- Complete maintenance logs, work orders, repair documentation, inspection records, and operational reports accurately and within required timelines.
- Coordinate with facility leadership, detention personnel, contractors, and outside vendors regarding repair projects and operational maintenance activities.
- Ensure all maintenance operations comply with facility detention standards, OSHA regulations, environmental safety requirements, and facility policies.
- Support emergency response operations, facility improvement projects, and operational readiness activities as assigned by supervisory personnel.
- Maintain professionalism, strong technical skills, and effective communication while supporting safe and efficient detention facility operations.
Qualifications:
- Must possess three (3) years of facility maintenance experience.
- Must possess basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building repair.
- Must possess ability to troubleshoot equipment and complete preventative maintenance tasks.
- Must possess experience using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
- Must possess knowledge of workplace safety procedures, OSHA standards, and proper use of PPE.
- Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
- If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
- Must consent to fingerprinting.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
- Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
- Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment:
Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
Physical Requirements:
Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
