POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS


Position Overview: In this role, you will support the daily sanitation and cleanliness operations of the government detention facility by ensuring all assigned housing units, offices, medical spaces, hallways, and common areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition. This position plays a critical role in infection prevention, resident health and safety, and overall facility operations. You will be responsible for following strict sanitation standards, handling cleaning chemicals safely, maintaining cleaning equipment, and identifying facility maintenance or safety concerns while working in a fast-paced and secure detention environment.


Responsibilities:

  • Clean, sanitize, and disinfect resident housing units, administrative offices, visitation areas, hallways, restrooms, intake spaces, and common areas in accordance with detention facility sanitation standards.
  • Operate janitorial equipment, floor cleaning machines, vacuums, buffers, and approved cleaning chemicals safely and effectively while following OSHA and facility safety procedures.
  • Remove trash, biohazard waste, recyclable materials, and contaminated items while ensuring proper disposal procedures are consistently followed.
  • Restock paper products, hygiene supplies, cleaning materials, and sanitation stations throughout assigned operational areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas and report maintenance concerns, plumbing issues, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate inventory accountability for cleaning chemicals, janitorial tools, and sanitation equipment.
  • Support infection prevention efforts by performing deep-cleaning and sanitation procedures during outbreaks, emergencies, or special facility operations.
  • Maintain professionalism while working around residents, staff, contractors, and visitors within a secure detention environment.


Qualifications:

  • Must possess one (1) year of janitorial or similar work experience.
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English proficiently.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.


Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.


Physical Requirements:

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
