POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS


Position Overview: In this role, you will provide direct nursing care, clinical assessments, medication administration, and healthcare support services to residents within the detention facility while assisting physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health personnel, and healthcare leadership with daily medical operations. You will monitor resident health conditions, respond to medical emergencies, coordinate treatment services, and maintain accurate healthcare documentation in accordance with government detention standards, nursing regulations, clinical protocols, and applicable healthcare laws. This position requires strong clinical judgment, professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a secure detention healthcare environment while maintaining high standards of patient care and confidentiality.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents including health assessments, medication administration, treatment procedures, wound care, chronic care monitoring, and clinical support activities.
  • Monitor resident medical conditions and identify changes in health status, symptoms, behavioral concerns, or emergency situations requiring immediate medical attention or intervention.
  • Administer medications, injections, treatments, and prescribed therapies in accordance with physician orders, nursing standards, and facility healthcare procedures.
  • Assist physicians, advanced practice providers, and behavioral health personnel with medical evaluations, intake screenings, emergency response activities, and resident treatment planning.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies, urgent healthcare concerns, injuries, behavioral health crises, and resident wellness incidents while providing appropriate nursing care and support.
  • Maintain accurate nursing documentation, treatment records, medication administration records, healthcare logs, clinical notes, and incident reports in compliance with HIPAA and facility standards.
  • Coordinate resident medical appointments, diagnostic testing, specialty referrals, follow-up care activities, and continuity of healthcare services with medical staff and outside providers.
  • Monitor inventory accountability for medications, medical supplies, treatment materials, and healthcare equipment while reporting shortages or operational concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with government detention standards, infection prevention procedures, healthcare regulations, nursing protocols, and facility operational policies.
  • Coordinate communication with detention staff, transportation personnel, healthcare providers, behavioral health staff, and outside medical agencies regarding resident healthcare operations and treatment needs.
  • Support audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and operational assessments related to healthcare services and nursing operations.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, effective communication, strong clinical judgment, and attention to detail while supporting safe and efficient healthcare operations within the detention facility.


Qualifications:

  • Must possess an Arizona Registered Nurse License.
  • Must possess one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CPR/BLS certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is highly preferred.
  • Must possess an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school.
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English proficiently.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.


Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.


Physical Requirements:

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
