The Medical Assistant is a vital member of the clinical team, providing hands-on support to providers and ensuring high-quality, efficient patient care. This role includes clinical responsibilities such as patient intake, assisting with procedures, administering injections, and managing documentation in accordance with practice standards. Â
Responsibilities/Tasks:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform patient intake, including vital signs, medical history, medication reconciliation, and EMR documentation.
- Prepare patient charts, maintain electronic medical records, and complete assigned EMR tasks.
- Assist physicians with examinations, injections, and minor procedures, including sterile field setup and C-arm operation as needed.
- Coordinate patient care by processing referrals, obtaining medical records and surgical clearances, and preparing surgical documentation.
- Process prescription refills, prior authorizations, and clinical forms (e.g., FMLA, disability, work restrictions).
- Perform clinical duties such as suture/staple removal, specimen preparation, and dispensing DME and medications in accordance with practice protocols.
- Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms and support efficient patient flow.
- Provide patient education, follow-up instructions, and communicate with patients and outside facilities as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited program (required).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Clinical Medical Assistant.
- Strong understanding of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and patient care processes.
- Ability to measure and record vital signs manually and electronically.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a busy clinical environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality practices.
- CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).
