Position Title: Maintenance / Shop Mechanic

Location: Swedesboro, NJ (on-site, manufacturing shop; no travel expected)

Type: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt

Compensation: $30–33/hour

ROLE SUMMARY

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves machines and making them run better. You will maintain, improve, and create our manufacturing machinery and processes through fabrication and design, keeping our production equipment and facility running reliably, building custom jigs, and fabricating prototypes of new products with direction from our engineer. You will also learn to program and use our CNC equipment for prototyping, including routers, press brake, plasma cutter, and mill. Your creative problem solving, mechanical aptitude, and fast learning will directly improve our product quality and accelerate our production. This role is ideally suited to a versatile, mid-career maker who takes pride in fixing things right, not just fast.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibility: Machine & Facility Maintenance

• Maintain and repair production machinery, equipment, and tooling to minimize downtime

• Perform electrical troubleshooting on equipment, controls, and wiring, following all lockout/tagout and electrical safety procedures

• Build, own, and execute the preventive maintenance program, including PM schedules, records, and spare parts inventory

• Respond quickly to breakdowns during production hours, prioritizing repairs based on production impact

• Perform general facility maintenance and support workstation builds, layout changes, and 5S improvements

Primary Responsibility: Fabrication, Design & Process Improvement

• Build custom machines and jigs to improve production efficiency and quality, working from designs provided by our engineers

• Fabricate prototypes of new products with direction from the engineer

• Weld, machine, and fabricate parts, fixtures, guards, and repair solutions as needed

• Learn to program and operate CNC equipment for prototyping, including routers, press brake, plasma cutter, and mill

• Identify and implement improvements to manufacturing processes that increase throughput and reduce waste

Secondary Responsibility: Quality, Standards & Safety

• Develop and maintain testing and tolerance standards to ensure product quality

• Ensure that machines and jigs are being used properly and safely throughout the shop

• Identify and correct safety hazards; support compliance with all safety standards and regulations

• Keep the shop, maintenance areas, and tool storage clean, organized, and safe

• Coordinate with outside vendors, contractors, or manufacturers when specialized repairs or services are required

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3–5 years of machine maintenance experience in a shop, industrial, or manufacturing environment

• Prototyping experience: machining, welding, and fabrication (required)

• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and electro-mechanical aptitude with theoretical knowledge (required)

• Experience building or executing preventive maintenance programs (required)

• Familiarity with schematics and technical drawings

• High school diploma

• Strong professional skills, including project management, time management, verbal/written communication, and personal organization

• Ability to juggle multiple projects and responsibilities at once while focusing on the priorities given to you

• Punctual, reliable, and responsible, with a professional and positive personality

• Ensures a high degree of accuracy and completeness

• Machine design experience (preferred)

• Prior experience at a manufacturing company (preferred)

• CNC programming experience (preferred)

• Equipment uptime and reduction in unplanned downtime

• Preventive maintenance completion rate against schedule

• Response time from breakdown to resolution

• Custom jigs and process improvements completed, with measurable gains in efficiency and quality

• Prototype turnaround in support of engineering

• Product quality: adherence to testing and tolerance standards

• Safety: zero incidents; proper and safe use of machines and jigs across the shop

• Facility condition, cleanliness, and organization

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; sit; stand; walk; balance; use hands; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. You will be working in the manufacturing shop.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, on-site position working Monday through Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm (skip the traffic). After-hours emergencies are rare, and we highly value a work-life balance.
