Le Moyne STEP Program:

The Le Moyne College Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is one of 51 STEP programs in New York State preparing historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students from Nottingham High School, Henninger High School, Syracuse Middle Schools and all of Onondaga County for college.

Collaborating with the New York State Department of Education and the Syracuse City School District since 1987, we’re proud of our students’ pursuit of careers in math, science, technology and the health-related or licensed professions.

POSITION SUMMARY                                                                     

The STEP Academic Advisor will support Saturday Institute operations, including participant check-in/out, workshop facilitation, and individual or group counseling sessions focused on academic and professional development. Working closely with the Director and Academic Coordinator, the advisor will drive program goals through consistent academic support and data collection. We seek an outgoing, proactive, and approachable individual passionate about guiding Syracuse City School District students toward STEM pathways.

This is a part-time 10-month position working 2-3 Saturdays per month (21 Saturdays each academic year) from 9am-1:30pm.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job duties specific to this position:

  • Perform one-on-one meetings with students in the program to assist with short and long-range educational goals.
  • Provide academic and professional counseling including assistance with college application process and employment applications; and identify students who require additional academic support services.
  • Facilitate seminars and programming with the assistance of other STEP professionals that contribute to the goal of advancing student's academic, personal, and professional growth

  • Engages in a planned program of professional development. Continually maintains skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry including best practice, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends.
  • Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Tutoring experience and/or administrative experience with a higher education opportunity program.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and experience with low-income, academic at-risk students.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • This is a position includes 2-3 Saturdays per month.
  • Competence with basic Microsoft Office Suite skills and technology

Additional Information:

Pay Range:  $20.00 per hour
