River Valley Holdings is a family-owned distribution company based in Syracuse, NY, serving retail customers across the northeastern United States. The River Valley family of companies; River Valley Foods, Cavallaro Foods, and Empire Valley distributes a wide range of specialty dry and frozen grocery items and consumable products from warehouses in Syracuse, NY.

Position Overview

The Second Shift Warehouse Manager is responsible for leading all outbound warehouse activities during second shift, ensuring the efficient, accurate, and safe execution of order fulfillment and shipping operations.

This role requires a hands-on, results-driven leader who can balance day-to-day execution with team development, process improvement, and operational accountability. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership presence, a continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to drive performance across a fast-paced, high-volume distribution environment.

This individual will play a critical role in ensuring service levels are met, operational standards are upheld, and teams are developed to support the company’s continued growth.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and oversee all second shift warehouse operations, including order fulfillment, staging, consolidation of product from other campus locations, and outbound shipping 
  • Ensure all customer orders are picked, verified, and shipped with a high level of accuracy and on-time performance 
  • Monitor workflow, labor allocation, and productivity to meet daily shipping deadlines and service expectations 
  • Identify and resolve operational issues in real time while implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence 
  • Partner cross-functionally with Transportation, Customer Service, and Sales to ensure alignment on priorities, schedules, and special initiatives 
  • Oversee the coordination with cross-dock partners, including pallet projections based on anticipated volume and special distributions.


Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly lead, coach, and develop a team of supervisors, leads, and warehouse associates 
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures across the team 
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and address performance issues proactively 
  • Identify high-potential employees and actively develop bench strength for future leadership roles 
  • Foster a culture of ownership, teamwork, and continuous improvement 


Performance & Accountability

  • Drive key performance metrics including productivity, order accuracy, error rates, and on-time shipment 
  • Utilize data and reporting tools to monitor performance and identify trends or opportunities for improvement 
  • Ensure consistent execution of standard operating procedures and operational best practices 
  • Maintain strong labor management discipline, including timecard approvals and staffing alignment to demand 


Process Improvement & Scalability

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and streamline warehouse processes 
  • Partner with leadership on initiatives related to system enhancements, workflow optimization, and capacity planning 
  • Support the development and implementation of scalable processes to support business growth 


Safety, Compliance & Quality

  • Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety across all warehouse activities 
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and applicable regulatory standards including food safety standards, HACCP, FDA, and SQF requirements
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and audit readiness at all times 
  • Lead by example in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations, Business, or related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in warehouse, distribution, or supply chain operations 
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a fast-paced warehouse environment 
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive performance, and hold individuals accountable 
  • Strong operational knowledge of warehouse processes, including order fulfillment, shipping, and inventory flow 
  • Experience working with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and performance reporting tools 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and use insights to improve operations 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across departments 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with shifting priorities 


Physical & Schedule Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the warehouse for extended periods 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed 
  • Availability to work a consistent second shift schedule, with additional time as needed to support operational demands, including weekends and holidays


Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Schedule: Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 2:00pm - End of Shift
  • Salary Range: $85,000 – $105,000 per year
  • Performance-based bonus eligibility up to 10% of annual salary
