What You’ll Do
As a Property Accountant, you will oversee the full financial operations and reporting for a portfolio of retail properties. You’ll apply your technical accounting expertise to ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency in all financial activities while providing meaningful insights that support both business decisions and client relationships.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys blending detailed financial work with broader strategic impact. As you develop within the role, you’ll have the opportunity to take on increased responsibilities, mentor others, and advance into senior-level accounting positions.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Manage all financial operations and monthly reporting for assigned properties.
- Prepare, analyze, and review general ledger entries, financial statements, and supporting schedules.
- Oversee and monitor the accounts payable process and ensure proper cash management and timely payments.
- Create, review, and complete month-end and year-end closing entries.
- Collaborate with Property Management, Lease Administration, and other internal teams to develop budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Calculate and process client distributions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with management agreements.
- Provide training and guidance on accounting principles, company procedures, and workpaper preparation to property management team members and peers, as needed.
Audit, Compliance & Process Improvement
- Support audit preparation and respond to auditor requests; public accounting or internal audit experience strongly preferred.
- Partner with leadership to evaluate and enhance accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation.
- Drive process improvements across property accounting functions, contributing to best practices and efficiency initiatives.
Client Service & Relationship Management
- Develop trusted relationships with clients by delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with all terms outlined in management and leasing agreements.
- Partner closely with property teams to provide financial guidance and support day-to-day operational decisions.

What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience; property, real estate, or commercial industry experience preferred.
- Public accounting or audit background strongly preferred.
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification preferred.

Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP, full-cycle accounting, and accrual-based financial reporting.
- Proficient in preparing and reviewing monthly financial packages, journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly accruals.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in a multi-entity environment.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent client communication and relationship management skills; able to confidently present financial information and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Compensation
Â
Salary for this role ranges from $60,000 to $80,000 per year, based on experience and professional credentials. Candidates with a CPA or other relevant certification may be eligible for compensation toward the higher end of the range.
