Position Overview

We are seeking a Certified Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) to provide ultrasound imaging services supporting the Veterans Health Administration at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. The Sonographer will perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations and provide high-quality imaging services in accordance with VA clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations including abdominal, vascular, pelvic, and small-parts studies.

  • Conduct vascular imaging including carotid Doppler, venous Doppler, and arterial studies.

  • Prepare and position patients for ultrasound procedures and explain procedures to patients.

  • Ensure accurate image acquisition and quality control of ultrasound equipment.

  • Monitor patients during procedures and report abnormal findings to physicians.

  • Document imaging procedures and patient information in the VA electronic health record system.

  • Maintain compliance with radiation safety, infection control, and VA policies.

  • Collaborate with radiologists and clinical staff to support patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification.

  • Minimum 3 years of clinical ultrasound experience.

  • Experience performing:

    • Abdominal and retroperitoneal ultrasound

    • Vascular imaging

    • Pelvic and small-parts imaging

  • Knowledge of PACS and digital imaging systems.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Philips EPIQ 5 or EPIQ 7 ultrasound systems.

  • Prior VA or hospital imaging experience.

Requirements

  • Active unrestricted license/certification in the United States.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Ability to meet VA credentialing and background investigation requirements.

  • Compliance with VA training and health screening requirements.
