Job Summary
The Data Analytics & Data Science Intern will support the BCIT Enterprise Applications team by assisting with data analysis, reporting, and monitoring activities related to the City's enterprise systems, including Workday. The intern will work with team members to review system data, identify trends, and help develop reporting and visualization tools that support operational decision making. This position provides hands-on experience with enterprise technology, data analytics, and government IT operations.
Essential Functions:
Assist with analyzing system and integration data to identify trends, patterns, and potential issues.
Support development of reports and dashboards used by BCIT teams to monitor system performance.
Review system logs and data files to help identify data quality issues or processing errors.
Assist with data visualization using tools such as Power BI, Excel, or similar reporting platforms.
Work with team members to document data processes and reporting workflows.
Support research and testing of tools that can improve analytics and reporting capabilities.
Participate in team meetings and present findings from data analysis activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
Basic experience with programming languages such as Python or SQL.
Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
Interest in data analytics, enterprise systems, and technology operations.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Eligibility Requirements:
Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior​​
Currently attend a Maryland higher education institution​​
Graduated from a Maryland high school, but currently attend a non-Maryland higher education institution​​
Graduated from a Maryland high school, and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career technical training program
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of data analysis concepts and methods.
Familiarity with programming or scripting languages such as Python, SQL, or R.
Ability to work with large datasets and identify patterns or trends.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate technical information clearly in written and verbal form.
Experience with Microsoft Excel or data visualization tools is preferred.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
