Position Summary: The Education Advocate assists parents and students with disabilities to understand and navigate the special education system, working with schools and other community providers to ensure provision of equal educational opportunities. The advocate develops and maintains a working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, along with state and federal special education laws that affect the rights of students with disabilities. Advocates are part of a team that provides information and trainings to increase the knowledge and competence of schools, families, and in the community.  Job Responsibilities: Inform parents/guardians who have a child with a disability of their child’s rights under NYS and federal law Help families prepare for CSE and other school meetings Attend school meetings to ensure all voices are heard and assist parents to advocate for what is in the best interest of the student Work with parents to communicate with schools and help resolve disputes Network with and refer to other service providers in the community; make use of internal resources as appropriate Attend outreach events to increase community awareness Aid in the development and delivery of training sessions for families, educators, and community members Maintain timely, accurate records of all services provided Uphold code of ethics, code of conduct, and all ARISE/EFR policies and procedures Exercise sound judgment as a matter of course, and hold protected health information and other sensitive information in the strictest of confidence in accordance with ARISE/EFR and HIPAA policies Professionally represent Indera by demonstrating the highest ethical standards Perform other duties as requested  Confidentiality: High-level confidentiality is required for access to all organization records. Safety Compliance: Office functions are performed while maintaining a safe work environment.  Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; combination of education and related experience working in special education and/or with students with disabilities will be considered Knowledge of special education processes and relevant NYS and federal law Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to form collaborative relationships with families, educators, school districts, and colleagues Computer proficiency, including Microsoft 365 Clean driver’s license and reliable, insured, inspected vehicle Knowledge of OPWDD and available community supports preferred  Work location: Syracuse - Onondaga County Hours and days: Monday-Friday 8:00am -4:00pm Compensation: $21.50 -$23.50 per hour Non -Exempt 40 hours per week, including one-hour paid lunch Â
