This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Project Manager with the potential to work out of either our Seattle, WA, Redmond, WA, or Tacoma, WA office. Be involved in projects with our Federal Environmental Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. 

The successful candidate will be involved with providing local project management/task management for the design, development, and implementation of environmental programs for the public and private sectors. Tasks may include management of field investigations and research, concept development, and design and construction of sediment, soil, and groundwater remediation systems. The candidate will generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of each project undertaken. They will ensure that assignments are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards and project requirements for design, safety, and functionality. Work will include a mixture of field and office assignments; some travel is likely, including overnight stays.

Your Impact

  • Perform general project management duties by coordinating with internal/external team members, supporting the development and leadership of project teams, proactively identifying issues, and conducting project status meetings. Prepare and communicate project updates to senior leadership to ensure alignment and transparency.

  • Support management of project scope, schedule, and budget by tracking progress, identifying risks, and assisting with corrective actions. Proactively help ensure project teams execute the defined scope, maintain schedules, and deliver projects within approved budgets.

  • Lead and coordinate interdisciplinary project teams by working with multiple technical and functional disciplines to assemble appropriate project resources, facilitate collaboration, and support successful project execution from initiation through completion.

  • Assist with client management and communication by keeping clients informed of project status, responding to questions, supporting problem‑solving efforts, and participating in client meetings as needed. Help maintain positive client relationships to support ongoing work and future business development opportunities.

  • Manage project teams collecting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from samples of soil, water, sediment, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.  
  • Perform professional civil and environmental engineering work relating to hazardous or solid waste facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources, existing site conditions, and water resources.  
  • Assist with performing basic engineering work relating to research, investigation, and evaluation of existing site conditions, regulatory records, and site operational history to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field notebooks/logs.
  • Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on various environmental issues. 
  • Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which pertain to activities including, but not limited to, collection of site characterization data, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.
  • Complete training and implement lessons learned on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources and personal conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as required by business needs.

 

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing (orally and in written form) ideas effectively and professionally to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-starter with attention to detail, flexibility with multi-tasking, and competency in prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as to function as part of a team, to meet business objectives.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek (overtime and weekend work is possible).
  • Ability to perform field assignments that may involve lifting and carrying heavy objects and walking on uneven terrain is required.
  • Experience with sampling of environmental media (soils, sediment, water).
  • Flexibility for occasional travel, depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening. 
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
  • Engineer in Training Certification or ability to obtain, with desire to pursue licensing. 
  • Basic proficiency with math principles, predictive models, and tools.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite. 
  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 or more years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Advanced degrees (Masters/PhD) strongly preferred.
  • Professional certifications (P.E., PMP).
  • Proficiency with technical software programs such as GIS, Python, SYSTAT, MATLAB, and Origin.
  • Knowledge of construction cost estimating and construction processes is a plus.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour training is desirable. 
  • Familiarity with a range of civil and environmental engineering practices including design and implementation of site investigations and sampling programs to assess sites impacted by hazardous or solid waste; application of remedial approaches to mitigate contamination of water and land resources; and collection of environmental monitoring data to assess remedial performance.  Specialized knowledge in one or more of these areas is desired but not mandatory.

 

Physical Demands

  • Must have the ability to stoop, sit, stand, or be on their feet for extended periods of time and be able to handle standard field-testing equipment.
  • Must have the ability to work in varying environments (office, and field settings).
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, with potential for overnight stays, and work flexible hours.

Compensation: 

Expected Salary: $85,200 - $129,800 

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
