SUMMARY:
The Fire Data Analyst will perform data management, data analysis, and reporting activities that support the strategic and operating needs of South Sound 911 and their partner agencies. This position must be adept at collaborating with both external and internal stakeholders to meet the evolving needs of the agency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
Develop, implement, and maintain leading-edge analytic systems, taking complicated problems and building simple frameworks.
Proactively analyze data to answer key questions from stakeholders or out of self-initiated curiosity, with an eye for what drives operational performance, investigating and communicating areas for awareness and improvement.
Create a variety of detailed statistical narrative reports, maps, and charts integrating data from multiple software programs for consumption internally and with user agencies.
Develop strong understanding of primary agency data systems including CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch), Records Management Systems, 911 Telephony, and other relevant data systems that includes understanding operational workflow and how practices impact data.
Familiarity with Fire and EMS emergency response protocols, with the ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts to develop and maintain operational understanding.
Collaborate with agency subject matter experts, the Technology Department, and partner agencies to evaluate data integrity.
Designs, builds, publishes and maintains data points and reporting results in a comprehensive and visually appealing way.
Maintain familiarity and knowledge of data analytics industry solutions and offerings.
Ability to lead projects and recommend best practices and standards across agency partners.
Provide report outs to agency supported committees.
Routinely meet with Fire Agency Representatives on work assignments.
Obtain and maintain certifications required for this position and attend all required trainings.
Additional duties as assigned and related.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to work around, and with, confidential information, and exercise proper discretion in its dissemination in accordance with South Sound 911 policy, and with State and Federal law.
Ability to organize and accomplish work assignments in an efficient and timely manner with minimum supervision.
Ability to anticipate needs of the agency and agency partners and respond proactively.
Proficient analytic skills, including mining, evaluation, analysis, and visualization.
Robust skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis that includes using third-party software solutions as well as manual analysis.
Excellent interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships across the organization, coworkers, agency customers, the community, and vendors.
Ability to build and maintain interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations for key metrics.
Proficient with standard suite of Microsoft Office software and database applications. In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
Ability to develop and implement processes and practices that support strong data analysis and use information to facilitate data driven decision.
Exhibit professional appearance, demeanor, and ethical conduct consistent with organizational standards and expectations.
Ability to integrate data from multiple sources and present in a useable format.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in:
- Data modeling, data reporting and data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
Any other combination of education, certification and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Preferred background In Fire Service and/or Emergency Response Agency and experience working in a public agency.

The agency operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year and work may be required at any time.
Must be able to hear and talk. Vision required in the job includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must frequently sit for extended periods at a computer terminal, walk both indoors and out, use hands to finger, handle or feel. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; occasionally must stand, bend/stoop, or kneel. Occasionally must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to travel away from the regular worksite as required.
Work is performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions. The noise level is generally quiet; this position will interact with employees and customers on a daily basis.
