Job DetailsJob Location: Maclay School - Tallahassee, FL 32312Lower School Teaching Assistant  Full Time, 10 Months  Start Date: August 2026  Maclay School seeks a dedicated, student-centered Lower School Teaching Assistant to support our classrooms and youngest learners. This role is ideal for someone who is both relational and organized, and who believes children thrive in environments where they feel known, supported, and encouraged to grow.   Who You Are  You are someone who genuinely enjoys working with young children and understands that learning in the Lower School is both academic and deeply developmental. You bring warmth, patience, and a steady presence to the classroom, helping create an environment where students feel safe to take risks and engage fully.  You see your role as both supportive and active. You are attentive to student needs, responsive in the moment, and proactive in helping the classroom run smoothly. You value collaboration and enjoy working closely with a lead teacher to bring lessons and routines to life.  You are flexible and dependable, able to shift as needed throughout the day while maintaining a calm and positive demeanor. You take initiative, notice what needs to be done, and step in to help without needing to be asked.  Key Responsibilities  Partner closely with the lead teacher to support daily instruction and classroom routines   Provide small group and individual support to reinforce academic concepts   Assist in the preparation and organization of instructional materials and activities   Support classroom management by helping maintain clear, consistent expectations   Supervise students during transitions, recess, and lunch, ensuring a safe and positive environment   Foster students’ social and emotional development through encouragement, modeling, and relationship-building   Contribute to a collaborative, respectful classroom culture   Assist with additional responsibilities as needed to support the classroom and school   QualificationsQualifications  Bachelor’s degree required (Education or related field preferred)   Experience working with children, ideally in a school setting   Strong communication and collaboration skills   Positive, flexible, and proactive approach to work   Demonstrated reliability and professionalism   A genuine love for children and a desire to support their growth     Physical Requirements and ADA Statement  This role requires regular movement between classrooms and buildings, active engagement in classroom instruction, and the ability to navigate indoor and outdoor school environments. The position also requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, communicate clearly, operate standard classroom technology, and occasionally lift materials up to 20–30 pounds.
