ADVERTISING/WORKING TITLE: ACCOUNTANT IV

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office (Southwood Location) in Finance and Accounting.

This position is responsible for processing and auditing travel and PCard invoices, providing accounting support, maintaining training and fiscal preparations, improving internal controls, and utilizing various accounting systems to ensure compliance and accuracy.

This position is a telework eligible position and reports to the FDC office in the area it serves as required.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Process travel and PCard invoices using manual and automated systems, ensuring compliance with Florida statutes, departmental procedures, HIPAA, and fiscal standards for timely and accurate payments.
  • Review, audit, and approve accounting documents in computerized systems, prepare journal transfers, and verify accuracy and authorization for payments.
  • Provide accounting support to staff, vendors, auditors, and other internal and external customers.
  • Maintain required training hours and assist with fiscal year-end preparations and improvements to internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Utilize various accounting systems (AOD/MFMP, FLAIR, PALM, BARS, CAIRS, Axiom Pro) and conduct special projects as assigned by management.

ESSENTIAL/ENTRY LEVEL KSA’S:

 

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to use automated accounting systems, personal computers and general office equipment.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
