As a Consumer & Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you'll evaluate loan requests, apply sound lending principles, and make key decisions that support both our members' needs and the credit union's success. You'll also serve as a trusted resource for internal teams, helping guide lending practices and support strong credit outcomes

What You'll be Doing

You'll review and underwrite consumer, home equity, and other loan products - making decisions on approvals, overrides, exceptions, and rate concessions within your authority. Using your expertise, you'll assess risk and structure loans appropriately - considering compensating factors, additional collateral, loan terms, or other conditions to ensure responsible lending practices. You'll collaborate with leadership to provide feedback on lending guidelines, policies, and product offerings, while also tracking trends and supporting departmental metrics related to loan quality and performance.

In addition, you'll act as a consultative partner - helping members understand their financial options, improve their credit profiles, and identify opportunities for additional products or services. You'll also support internal development by coaching lending staff, conducting training, and ensuring consistent, high-quality decisioning across the organization.

What You Bring to the Table

• Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience/certification)
• 3–5 years of experience in loan underwriting and credit approvals
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate complex loan scenarios
• In-depth knowledge of consumer lending, credit analysis, and loan structuring
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a member-focused mindset
• A commitment to compliance, quality control, and fair lending practices
• Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and lending systems
