Overall responsibility: The AI Software Engineer works closely with business and technical teams to design, build, and maintain applications and AI-powered agents that extract, transform, and deliver insights across the Data Model. This role involves contributing to technical architecture decisions, writing and reviewing production code, and integrating large language model (LLM) capabilities into internal tools and client-facing products. The AI Software Engineer follows established development processes (SDLC), maintains high engineering standards, and resolves technical issues efficiently within a matrix organization.

Essential Functions

  • Design, develop, and maintain applications spanning front-end interfaces, APIs, and backend services.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between IT and business units to translate data and workflow requirements into working software.
  • Design and build AI agents and LLM-powered tools (e.g., conversational analytics, agentic workflows) using frameworks such as the Claude Agent SDK.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise on integrating AI/LLM capabilities with core data sources and platforms.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural decisions on complex system builds.
  • Collaborate with end users and data governance teams to expose business definitions and metadata through APIs, agents, and the Data Catalog.
  • Contribute to technical feasibility analysis, scope estimation, and Agile prioritization of deliverables.
  • Provide support to development, implementation, and production teams, including debugging and performance tuning.
  • Partner with data and analytics teams to build reporting tools, dashboards, and AI-assisted reporting solutions.
  • Participate in Integration Testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and functionality testing for new features and agents.
  • Ensure adherence to company engineering processes and participate in continuous improvement initiatives (CI/CD, code quality, testing standards).
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior developers as needed.
  • Contribute to best practices for development, AI integration, and data architecture.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the specific or related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the field.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working as a Software, or Backend Developer.
  • 3+ years of experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React) and backend frameworks (e.g., Node.js, NestJS).
  • Experience building or integrating AI/LLM-powered applications or agents (e.g., Claude, OpenAI, or similar APIs/SDKs).
  • Customer-interfacing experience — project support, technical presentations, a plus.
  • 3+ years of SQL/Snowflake knowledge and experience — tables, views, stored procedures, and data modeling.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse/BI solutions and cloud architecture (Azure preferred).
  • Familiarity with agentic architectures, MCP (Model Context Protocol), or similar AI orchestration patterns is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical architecture and working code.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
