Hours: 36 hours per week
Pay: $22.00 per hour
Position: Armed Security Officer
Location: Tampa, Florida - Westshore Area*
Excelsior Defense is seeking a highly professional Armed Security Officer for a premier corporate office environment in Tampa.
This is not a traditional "stand post and observe" security assignment. We are looking for an officer who understands that professional security is equally about presence, judgment, communication, discretion, and customer service.
The ideal candidate will have prior military, law enforcement, public safety, executive protection, corporate security, or other high-level security experience. Prior military or law enforcement experience is strongly preferred.
The Standard We're Looking For
Our client's expectation is simple: every person entering the building should be treated as though they are a diplomat.
That means the officer must be able to maintain strict access-control standards while remaining courteous, polished, tactful, and professional. The right candidate knows how to enforce a security requirement without creating unnecessary confrontation or making employees and visitors feel unwelcome.
This position requires an officer who can:
- Maintain professional armed security presence in an executive/corporate environment.
- Monitor and control building access and identify potential unauthorized entry or "piggybacking."
- Professionally verify identification while treating employees, executives, visitors, vendors, and members of the public with courtesy and respect.
- Monitor CCTV and remain situationally aware of activity throughout the facility.
- Use computers, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Connecteam, email, and electronic reporting systems.
- Communicate effectively with corporate employees and management.
- Handle visitors, deliveries, process servers, policyholders, contractors, and other individuals according to established procedures.
- Assist appropriately during employee terminations or potentially difficult interactions when requested by the client.
- Respond calmly and professionally to medical, fire, law-enforcement, and other emergency situations.
- Complete accurate, detailed Daily Activity Logs and incident documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when dealing with sensitive corporate matters.
What Will Make You Successful at This Post
We are specifically looking for someone who is:
Professional. Observant. Diplomatic. Technically capable. Calm under pressure.
You should be comfortable interacting with senior executives one minute and professionally addressing an access-control violation the next.
We want an officer who can read the room, recognize when something is out of place, communicate without escalating situations, and understand that the security officer is often the first impression of the building.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess a valid Florida Class D Security Officer License and Class G Statewide Firearm License and meet all applicable requirements for armed security employment.
Candidates should also have:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Excellent customer-service skills.
- Strong situational awareness.
- Basic-to-intermediate computer proficiency.
- Ability to multitask without losing awareness of the security environment.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to maintain composure during emergencies or confrontational situations.
- Ability to follow detailed post orders and client-specific procedures.
Prior military or law enforcement experience is strongly preferred.
Candidates with backgrounds in corporate security, executive protection, government security, public safety, corrections, or other professional armed-security environments are also encouraged to apply.
This Position Is NOT a Good Fit If...
If you are looking for a post where you can sit at a desk, spend significant time on your phone, or simply "watch the building," this is not that assignment.
This post restricts personal cellphone use to rare and necessary circumstances and prohibit its use for entertainment or anything that distracts the officer from duty.
We are looking for an officer who takes ownership of the post, stays engaged throughout the shift, and understands that professionalism and customer service are part of the security mission.
