Responsible for collecting blood samples in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies, and federal, state, and local regulations. Tasks include labeling samples appropriately and logging all information related to tests performed and samples taken into a database and ensures the lab is ran efficiently while quality patient care delivered. This position reports to the phlebotomist lead.

Education

Completion of Phlebotomy Course 

Certification 

Phlebotomy Certification 

Basic Life Support (BLS) 

Key Accountabilities 

• Collects and appropriately labels all specimens and secure collection by the correct lab to provide order accuracy
• Establishes and maintains a smooth lab schedule and ensures the accuracy of patient orders to maintain efficient work flow
• Maintains the lab inventory and ensures expired supplies are appropriately removed to prevent any disruptions in quality care
• Explains blood draw procedures to patients and answers any questions about the process and may assist in patient outreach as requested to drive patient care engagement
• Effectively communicate with clinical staff and providers related to patient needs and respond to changes in patient conditions while under care, escalating to other clinical staff and/or provider when necessary
• Knowledge and understanding of all POC equipment to provide accurate results when utilized (perform EKG's as requested)
• Maintains overall patient experience and safety, following all emergency clinical policies and protocols, to allow for optimal experience of care
