The 1st Assistant Engineer shall be responsible to the Chief Engineer for the duties as allocated accordingly. The 1st Assistant Engineer may be employed in watchkeeping, UMS duties, or day work roles, as required by the Chief Engineer.

The 1st Assistant Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer
for:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Compliance with the Company鈥檚 MS requirements related to the position;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽The management and supervision of the Engineering Department and for the delegation of responsibility to the other Engineers;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽The safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all machinery in the Engineering Department;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Maintenance of the waste incinerator equipment;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Allocation of all maintenance work to respective engineers and ratings;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽The safe keeping of engine room watch as delegated by the Chief Engineer;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Assurance to act on behalf of the Chief Engineer during periods of absence, or incapacitation;聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Assurance of presence in the Engine Control Room or other engine room spaces as detailed in the MS and as directed by the Chief Engineer;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Assurance that any defects in equipment are to be brought to the attention of the Chief Engineer immediately;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Protection against loss or damage and against irregular or wasteful practices on the part of any member of the Engineering Department;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Preparation of and maintenance of the overtime records of Engineering Department personnel;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Assistance to the Chief Engineer with the maintenance of the computerized Planned Maintenance system;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Preparation of requisitions for Engineering Department stores and spare parts to be submitted to the Chief Engineer for approval. The 1st Assistant Engineer must maintain an inventory of materials on hand and on order;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Assurance of being familiar with all control piping systems, valves, and electrical systems, so that in an emergency situation, essential services can be restored quickly and safety;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Lube oil quantities and condition;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Assistance to the Chief Engineer with bunkering and transfer of bunkers when required;

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽Maintenance, testing and efficient operation of fire-fighting and life-saving equipment assigned to the Engineering Department as per the PM schedule.
