Job Summary:

As a Medical Assistant at Florida Advanced Spine & Orthopedics, you will work under the direction of a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant to perform administrative and clinical duties. You will be responsible for maintaining medical records, scheduling appointments, collecting financial responsibilities for care, and taking and recording vital signs and medical histories.

Primary Job Responsibilities: 

  • Record patients' medical history and other pertinent information into the medical record.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations and keep the room and workspace clean.
  • Interviewpatients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by the physician.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or other indicated physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies followingappropriate guidelines.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance or other patient requested forms.
  • Greet and log in patients arriving at the office or clinic.
  • Schedule appointments for patients.
  • Help physicians examine and treat patients under their direct guidance.
  • Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission.
  • Inventory andsubmitsupply orders for medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment.
  • Restock procedure and exam rooms with supplies used during the clinic day.
  • Operate X-Ray, electrocardiogram (EKG), or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests with theassistanceof the provider asindicated.
  • Change dressings on wounds.
  • Set up medical laboratory equipment.
  • Obtain imaging scans and reports toassistphysicians in their clinical decision making.

Other Job Responsibilities:

As indicated by the Team Leads and/or supervising physician.

Education/Certification/Licenses:

Medical Assistant Certification preferred but not required, initially.

 Additional Requirements:

Additional tasks, as requested, based upon the role.

The ability to travel to our various facilities may be necessary to fulfill our patient and provider needs.

 Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-year medical assistance experience required.
  • Operation of x-ray equipment preferred.
  • Prior experience with injections procedures preferred. 
  • Prior experience with EClinical Works (eCW) , Athena, and other EMRs, preferred.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic medical procedures.
  • Ability to operate medical equipment and computer software.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical laws and ethics.
