We are seeking a Process Development Engineer III to join our Preclinical Manufacturing & Process Development (PMPD) group, on-site in Tarrytown, NY. In this exciting role, you will use your domain expertise in liquid chromatography separations to design, lead, and react to experiments and projects independently, while mentoring less experienced direct reports and team members within the Purification Development (PD) group.

This position offers the opportunity to act as an established authority in chromatography-based separation techniques, proactively identifying improvement opportunities and driving strategy across Regeneron in support of pipeline and assay development, and the release of clinical and commercial products.

When & where:

  • Shift Requirements: Full-time, standard business hours
  • Location: On-site in Tarrytown, NY
  • Flexibility & travel: Minimal to no travel; on-site presence required to maintain lab operations and support equipment

What you'll do:

  • Act as an established authority in chromatography-based separation techniques, demonstrating scientific acumen across Regeneron, and determine strategies for improvements
  • Begin to lead technology development independently, drive results, and onboard new technologies
  • Skillfully write and review complex technical documents typically reviewed by senior leadership
  • Take calculated risks to achieve goals, independently and accurately determining strategies to address gaps and implement them effectively
  • Ask pointed questions to eliminate ambiguity and provide appropriate solutions
  • Make science-based recommendations through novel incorporation of internal and external (literature) learnings
  • Maintain and continuously improve lab operations and relevant data or knowledge management systems within your area of expertise
  • Anticipate customer needs at an organizational level and proactively shape internal workflows to meet them
  • Prepare and deliver effective oral presentations in internal and external professional meetings, sharing cross-functional skills and knowledge
  • Collaborate across Regeneron and external groups, with regular interaction with PMPD Senior Leadership
  • Represent PMPD in external multi-functional meetings
  • Mentor peers, direct reports, and PMPD personnel directly or indirectly through leading, guiding, and assisting
  • Contribute to lab equipment maintenance and safety, anticipating and resolving potential problems with supplies and equipment
  • Keep up with SOP training and compliance responsibilities
  • Communicate relevant information to PMPD Senior Staff as departmental program team representative

The environment and physical rhythms of this role:

  • This is an on-site laboratory role requiring hands-on use of specialized equipment, including Akta Explorer/Avant, Akta Pilot, BioProcess Skid, disc stack centrifuge, depth and tangential/normal flow filtration systems, chromatographic columns, HPLC, UPLC, diafiltration skid, and Raman spectroscopy, as well as laminar flow hoods and chemical fume hoods.
  • Flexibility to multi-task, work both independently and within a team environment, and take calculated risks to solve complex, ambiguous problems is required.

Must-haves:

  • Degree in an engineering discipline, with 0-2+ years of experience (PhD), 3-5+ years (MS), or 7-10+ years (BS) of industrial experience
  • Industrial experience in protein purification
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex messages clearly and credibly with multifaceted audiences, establishing multi-functional relationships that support proactive teamwork across the organization
  • Experience with specialized laboratory software and systems, including Empower, Unicorn, PI Historian, JMP, LIMS, Spotfire, RPES, and ELN

Preferred / nice-to-haves:

  • Demonstrated innovative thinking, developing ideas, tools, or techniques to solve problems or improve established procedures
  • Experience leading a team and effectively delegating tasks
