maxon precision motors specializes in assembly of its electric drive components into sophisticated electric drive systems. The Technical Program Manager will manage the transition of new products from Product Development or customer developed products into Production in support of our aggressive growth strategy. In this capacity, the Project Manager will be the liaison between product development, R&D, purchasing, finance, quality, planning, sales, manufacturing engineering and production departments and our customers.

Manage

  • Define, create and manage long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones to suit program deadlines.
  • Delegate action item activities to project members, including suppliers, and define costs.
  • Identify risks and perform risk management.
  • Identify competence and resource gaps and define an improvement plan.
  • Define and set up meeting structures to align and inform team members and stakeholders.
  • Establish effective project metrics and communication plans and ensure their execution.

Execute

  • Coordinate and drive to completion projects, on time within budget and scope.
  • Track project progress and deviations to action items and costs.
  • Lead project meetings and attend all other relevant meetings.
  • Report on project status to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Make effective decisions to ensure project progress, driving the actions that will result in milestone accomplishments.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Train employees in basic and advanced project management techniques.
  • Support stakeholders in key aspects of the project where needed, i.e. supply chain development, planning, logistics.

Capabilities

  • Convert project strategies into cohesive executable plans and measurable results.
  • Effectively use state-of-the-art project management tools.
  • Capable to read technical drawings.
  • Be familiar with a wide range of manufacturing techniques and their characteristics such as: turning, milling, grinding, annealing, surface treatments, casting, injection molding, fabrication, etc.
  • Be familiar with mechanical OTS components, such as bearings, adhesives, lubricants, fasteners, etc.
  • Be familiar with measurement techniques and their applications. Keywords are caliper, micrometer, measuring machine, comparator, GD&T, tolerance.
  • Be an involved project team leader that can drive results from an engaged, motivated and collaborative team.
  • Have a vision of LEAN implementations.
  • Conduct complex ERP and Excel operations.
  • Communicate clearly in written and verbal forms to achieve desired outcomes ranging from daily execution to project milestones to all stakeholders.
  • Possess strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal, motivational and influencing skills.

Competencies

  • Advanced analytical and engineering technical skills
  • Advanced first principles backing in Statics, Dynamics, and Electromagnetism
  • Ability to model and explain physical and engineering concepts in terms of First Principles
  • Experience working with electric motors / gears / sensors /controllers (regulated environments a plus)
  • Data acquisition 
  • CAD (Creo/ProE preferred)
  • Full lifecycle product development expertise (including requirements definition, scheduling, vendor selection and management)
  • Understanding of the basics of GD&T
  • Experience with machined, injection-molded parts (preferred)
  • Time Management
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to find improvements and drive them to completion
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills in a machine shop a plus
  • Experience with LabVIEW a plus
  • Strong engineering communication via technical drawings and engineering test reports

Required Education And Experiences

  • Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from accredited university
  • ~8-15 years’ experience. Minimum 8 years.
  • 5+ years’ CAD experience (Creo preferred)
  • At least one full-lifecycle product development (including requirements definition, scheduling, vendor selection and management)
  • Experience with revision-controlled documents preferred
  • Microsoft Office functionality

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional, dynamic office environment and regularly utilizes state-of-the-art technology including computers with high-speed internet access, AI, smartphones with various communication apps, cloud-connected multifunction printers, and digital filing systems. These tools facilitate efficient and remote collaboration, reflecting the evolving nature of office environments in the digital age. There is an expectation you will be comfortable working in a lab, assembly, or machine-shop area. The subsystems are designed and built at this location. 

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to factory areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment.

This position may require US travel, mostly local, to suppliers, subcontractors and/or customers.
