Internal Job Posting – Terminal Operations


Position Summary

Iron Horse is seeking an experienced operational leader to serve as Terminal Manager. Reporting directly to the SVP of Terminals, this role maintains total operational accountability for the safe, reliable, and efficient management of Terminal Operations and the Traincrew organization. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who will cultivate a high-accountability safety culture, drive process improvements, build high-performing teams, and ensure customer expectations are consistently met.


Key Responsibilities

Operational & Safety Leadership

  • Maintain overall responsibility for day-to-day terminal operations, crew scheduling, and resource allocation to meet service commitments.
  • Foster a strong safety culture in partnership with Compliance and EHS, ensuring operations comply with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the operational testing and observation program, leading prompt investigations into incidents or safety deficiencies and implementing corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance and vendors to optimize locomotive and equipment availability, downtime tracking, and repair prioritization.

People Management & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and mentor operational supervisors and Traincrew personnel, establishing clear performance standards and accountability.
  • Partner with HR on workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary matters.
  • Identify high-potential employees and build pipeline capacity for future operational leadership.

Continuous Improvement & Customer Relations

  • Serve as the primary operational contact for customers, proactively managing service expectations, delays, and resolution of operational issues.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (productivity, safety, attendance, service performance) to identify inefficiencies and standardize workflows.
  • Maintain regular cross-departmental alignment (Compliance, Maintenance, EHS) and report key operational metrics and strategic needs to executive leadership.


Core Qualifications

  • Proven supervisory or leadership experience in rail, transportation, logistics, industrial, or manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, manage, and hold accountable operational teams and subordinate leaders.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills in fast-paced operational environments.
  • Deep understanding of workplace safety and regulatory compliance protocols.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Railroad terminal, traincrew management, or locomotive operations/maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with FRA-regulated operational environments.
  • Experience developing operational procedures and managing customer-facing relationships.
