Job DetailsJob Location: Public Works - Taylor, TX 76574Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolSalary Range: $18.54 - $23.17 HourlyJob Category: General LaborBRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB: Maintains City's Parks, Grounds, and Right of Ways in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Duties include: operating light equipment and operating mowing equipment. Must be available to work overtime and be "On Call" as assigned by supervisor. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to: Crew Leader. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position. Other: Has contact with other employees in other departments and has daily contact with the public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: This is a description of the way this job is currently performed; there is potential for accommodation. Operates light equipment such as riding mowers/shredder, skid steer loader, chain saw, weed trimmer, or truck as required or instructed; Cleans restrooms, park grounds, and other city owned properties, picking up trash, empty cans, inspecting areas for damage/vandalism, and repairing playground structures and trails; Services and performs other routing inspections to insure equipment is in proper working condition; Assists in trouble shooting and performing skilled repairs; Assists in the set up of traffic control devices as necessary; Provides quality customer service to city staff, the public, and all other work contacts; Performs other related duties as may be assigned; and Assists other departments, such as Street/Ground Maintenance and Water Department as directed. QualificationsKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Knowledge of: Grounds maintenance procedures; and First Aid and CPR procedures. Ability to: Operate mowers, tractors, shredders, trimmers, chain saws, and other required equipment; Move 50 pounds and occasionally move 100 pounds; Understand written and verbal instructions; Work safely, effectively, and productively with others; Read and comprehend operation and safety manuals, signs, maps, office memos, labels, blueprints, etc.; Take notes, messages, and fill out work orders; Perform calculations for volume, capacity, and area; and Assess problems and make prompt, reliable repairs, and determine safe solutions. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High school graduate, or its equivalent; Three (3) years experience in grounds maintenance and operating grounds machinery preferred; Class B CDL driver's license by the State of Texas and a driving record that meets current city insurance liability requirements. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Required to work weekends and holidays; Required to be on call for after hour emergencies; Required to work hours other than 8:00 - 5:00; Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions; and Must pass a drug test prior to employment.
