At R. Joe Harris & Associates, Inc., we are seeking a skilled Survey Crew Chief to lead field crews and ensure accuracy on a wide range of land development and civil site projects. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with hands-on experience in surveying techniques and equipment and has a passion for delivering high-quality results.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage survey crews in the field to complete boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys. 
  • Plan and organize survey activities, determining the best methods, procedures, and equipment for each project. 
  • Operate and oversee the use of total stations, GPS, and other instruments. 
  • Collect accurate field data and ensure proper documentation for project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, clients, and team members to meet project requirements.
  • Maintain safety standards and compliance on all job sites.
  • Keep thorough field notes, records, and project documentation. 
  • Mentor and train junior crew members, supporting their professional growth. 
  • Stay current on new technologies, industry trends, and regulations. 

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience as a survey crew chief or instrument operator. 
  • Proficiency with total stations, GPS equipment, and surveying instruments.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate crews.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail. 
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center or similar software.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
