R. Joe Harris & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineer and Department Manager. This role offers the opportunity to lead transformative land development and civil site projects across residential, commercial, and municipal developments while mentoring staff and collaborating with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team.

What You'll Do

  1. Lead the engineering teams in the design and execution of land development projects, including site layout, stormwater management, utilities, and roadways.
  2. Navigate zoning ordinances, regulatory requirements, and permitting processes to secure approvals and ensure project compliance.
  3. Present designs, updates, and recommendations to clients; serve as a trusted technical resource and project representative.
  4. Mentor, train, and guide engineers and staff to build skills, maintain quality standards, and support professional growth.
  5. Manage and oversee engineering teams to ensure deadlines, budgets, and project goals are met.
  6. Conduct engineering analyses and develop cost-effective solutions.
  7. Collaborate with surveyors, architects, planners, environmental specialists, and other team members to deliver integrated, client-focused solutions.
  8. Incorporate sustainability and innovation, including green-infrastructure and smart growth practices.

What We're Looking For

  1. Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  2. 10+ years of experience in land development and civil site work. 
  3. Active professional engineer license (SC and/or NC preferred).
  4. Proven expertise in site design, stormwater management, utilities, and regulatory compliance.
  5. Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar engineering software.
  6. Strong leadership experience with a track record of mentoring and managing staff.
  7. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
