The Dimensional Calibration Technician is responsible for performing precise dimensional inspections and calibrations on a wide range of mechanical measurement equipment. This role ensures all instruments meet required accuracy, traceability, and quality standards in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025, customer specifications, and internal procedures. The ideal candidate brings extensive hands‑on experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced metrology environment.

Location:  Washington Calibration office in Tempe, AZ and possibly on-site at various customer sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform calibration, verification, and preventive maintenance on dimensional measurement equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges
    • Dial indicators and test indicators
    • Gage blocks and ring/plug gauges
       
  • Interpret technical requirements, and tolerance specifications to complete accurate calibrations.
  • Document calibration results and measurement uncertainty in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date, precise, and traceable calibration records within the lab’s management system (LIMS).
  • Identify out‑of‑tolerance conditions and communicate findings to engineering, quality, or customer contacts.
  • Assist in developing calibration methods, procedures, and uncertainty budgets for new equipment types.
  • Operate and care for precision laboratory instruments and environmental controls.
  • Support internal and external audits, including those from accreditation bodies or customers.
Qualifications:
 
Required
  • Experience in dimensional calibration or precision metrology.
  • Experience with a wide range of dimensional tools and standards.
  • Proficiency with calibration management systems (LIMS) and standard office software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and adherence to quality requirements.
Preferred
  • Certification through NIST, ASQ CCT, or equivalent metrology programs.
  • Prior work in an ISO/IEC 17025‑accredited laboratory.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Fine motor control to handle small precision instruments.
  • Work primarily in a controlled laboratory environment.
  • Occasional travel for on‑site calibrations (if applicable).
