Maintenance Worker at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tempe, Arizona located at 1800 E Libra Drive.
The Maintenance Worker position is full-time or 28-hours weekly and the schedule may include weekends and evenings depending on the parish events and activities. The pay bi-monthly at $15.15 - $17.00 per hour depending on experience.
Purpose and Scope
The Janitor / Maintenance Worker is primarily responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming environment throughout parish buildings and facilities.
This is primarily a janitorial/custodial position, with some basic maintenance and facility upkeep responsibilities. Most scheduled hours will be during evenings and weekends, based on parish Masses, programs, meetings, events, and facility usage.
The position works under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and is expected to work independently while completing assigned responsibilities
Requirements
Essential Job Functions
- Clean and maintain parish buildings, including floors, restrooms, offices, meeting rooms, halls, and common areas.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, sanitize, and perform general cleaning as needed.
- Empty trash and recycling and maintain trash collection areas.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and restock paper products, soap, and other supplies.
- Clean and prepare rooms before and after parish events, meetings, programs, and activities.
- Maintain cleaning supplies, equipment, and storage areas in an orderly manner.
- Monitor facilities for cleanliness, safety concerns, damage, or maintenance needs and report concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Assist with basic maintenance and facility upkeep, including minor repairs, changing light bulbs, moving tables and chairs, and maintaining entrances and surrounding areas.
- Follow proper procedures for safe use, storage, and handling of cleaning products and equipment.
- Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or other authorized supervisor.
Additional Job Functions
- Assist with event setup, seasonal cleaning, and facility projects.
- Assist with opening, closing, or securing facilities when required by the work schedule.
- Help maintain organized storage areas and parish property.
- Assist parish staff with facility-related needs as directed.
- Perform additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Previous janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or facility experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability and willingness to work primarily evening and weekend hours.
- Dependable, punctual, responsible, and able to work independently.
- Strong attention to cleanliness and detail.
- Ability to follow instructions and established cleaning and safety procedures.
- Ability to safely use common cleaning equipment and products.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and move cleaning supplies, equipment, tables, and chairs as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and perform physical tasks associated with janitorial work.
- Basic knowledge of tools and minor maintenance is helpful but not required.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain a professional and courteous relationship with parish staff, volunteers, parishioners, and visitors.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Desired
- 1st Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Food Handler’s Certificate or Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) Certificate
