JOB SUMMARY:
Hours: 10:00am-2:00pm (up to 20 hours per week)
This job includes, but is not limited to, preparing slides and paraffin blocks to be sent to outside institutions for continuation of patient care, second opinions and legal requests.  In addition, this position includes the handling and packaging of tissues, peripheral blood, and bone marrow samples for reference testing.  Employees are responsible for following all Company policies and procedures.  These policies and procedures will include adherence to regulatory standards such as CAP, HIPAA, CLIA and OSHA, including safety standards in performing all aspects of the functions below.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
I:
 
  1. Preparing slides and paraffin blocks to be sent out to outside institutions.
  2. Preparing tissues, peripheral blood, and bone marrow samples to be sent for reference testing.
  3. Verifying all patient identifiers are concordant prior to release and upon return of materials. 
  4. Maintaining an accurate and timely tracking system for all material sent out and returned.
  5. Preserving samples for legal requests. 
  6. Interacting with clients and patients regarding send-out procedures.
  7. Researching send–out requests for appropriateness.
  8. Verifying information is correctly entered into several databases. 
  9. Preparing blocks and slides to be returned to originating laboratory. 
  10. Auditing requests weekly for completeness and follow-up.   
  11. Assisting co-workers researching historical cases and return of materials.
  12. Monitoring department fax and email inbox and responding to requests in a timely manner. 
  13. Answering phone calls in a professional manner.
  14. Maintain Sendout Module for tracking. 
  15. Handle materials for pathologist consults to include returned consult reports.
  16. Other duties as assigned by management. 
 
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT :
  1. Must have excellent customer service skills.
  2. Must have good organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  3. Must have the ability to self-direct. 
  4. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  5. Ability to work in front of computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED

Level    I:  less than 3 years of relevant work experience
Level    II:  4-7 years of relevant work experience
Level    III:  8+ years of relevant work experience
