JOB SUMMARY
The Engineering Assistant is an entry-level position that provides technical and administrative support to the engineering and design team. This position is responsible for assisting with residential HVAC design, Manual J heat load calculations, permit documentation, and related engineering tasks.
The Engineering Assistant will receive training and develop proficiency in industry-specific software, design processes, and HVAC load calculations. The position offers an opportunity for long-term growth and advancement within the engineering and design function.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities outlined below represent the primary duties of this position. Responsibilities are performed in accordance with company procedures, applicable standards, and job requirements, with the level of supervision and support appropriate to the employee’s experience and level of training.
- Assist with Manual J residential heat load calculations and related HVAC design calculations. Training will be provided, with proficiency typically developing over approximately 6–12 months.
- Create and update residential house drawings using applicable design and engineering software, including entering required building, construction, and equipment parameters.
- Assist with preparing information used by the engineering/design team to determine appropriate equipment sizing and develop duct system designs.
- Assist with preparing and organizing permit documentation and other supporting materials for residential projects.
- Review residential plans, project information, calculations, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Gather, organize, and maintain accurate project information, files, calculations, and related documentation.
- Learn and use Rightsoft and other applicable software to support residential HVAC calculations and design activities.
- Communicate with internal team members regarding project information, design requirements, documentation, and project needs.
- Participate in training and continuously develop knowledge of residential HVAC design principles, construction practices, software, and applicable standards.
- Perform other engineering, design, and administrative duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work with technical information, measurements, plans, and specifications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal teams.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
- Construction, residential HVAC, or building science experience is a plus but not required. Familiarity with R-Value, insulation, or other residential construction concepts is also a plus.
- Experience with RightSoft or similar HVAC design software is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to learn residential HVAC design principles, Manual J calculations, software, and company-specific processes while following established procedures and training.

- Ability to visually review and read documents, computer screens, and other printed or electronic materials.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move office materials and supplies as needed.
