Responsible for providing counseling services to assist students reach their personal, academic and career goals. Promote a healthy campus environment and meet the psychological needs of the University community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides individual and group counseling for personal, academic, and career concerns.
- Engages in counseling related activities including case management, mental health and related seminars, test administration and interpretation, record maintenance, and referral.
- Provides crisis intervention services and consults with the director about crisis situations.
- Engages in program development, educational outreach, psychoeducational programming, and evaluation activities.
- Conducts all duties and responsibilities in accordance with ethical and professional standards and state laws.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues in and across the institution.
- Consults with faculty and staff regarding counseling services for students.
- Engages in professional development activities to enhance professional skills and maintain counselor licensure.
- Provides service to the university through committee involvement.
- Utilizes computer technology to support the counseling function.
- Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues, and opportunities.
- Assist in the oversight of outreach efforts, including the development of material for the delivery of educational and training programs (targeting mental health and wellness issues) and/or classroom and conference presentations.
- Assist in the oversight and guidance of the daily activities of assigned counseling or social work practicum/internship students. Co-facilitate case supervision and educational training for counseling or social work practicum/internship students.
- Â Assists with establishing and collaborating with community partnerships on and off campus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or other specialty related to job function.
- Practical/field placement relevant to college counseling, or supervised experience related to job function.
- Clinical competency in multicultural counseling.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Adherence to the Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for the relevant Texas State Licensing Board and all relevant laws of the State of Texas.
- Eligible for licensure as a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPC-Associate), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Must maintain licensure for continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years’ experience in counseling or a related field
- Excellent communication skills—oral and written
- Experience counseling in a college counseling center
- Experience in career counseling and alcohol/drug use counseling
- Successful experience in the development and presentation of mental health seminars
- Successful work experience in counseling all segments of a college campus population
Other Requirements
- Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
