As a Dockmaster you will serve as the primary point of contact for all dock-related activities, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely movement of trailers in and out of the facility. This is a hands-on leadership role that partners closely with operations, transportation, safety, and customer teams to execute daily dock activities while modeling accountability, operational discipline, and customer service excellence.Â

What you’ll do on a typical day:Â

Champion operation safety as well as support of hand tools and dock-related equipment, as requiredÂ
-
Serve as the primary point of contact for all loading and unloading dock activities, coordinating trailer movements to support daily operational prioritiesÂ
-
Manage and sequence trailer docking, release, and yard flow, applying knowledge of trailer anatomy and fleet safety standardsÂ
-
Monitor dock conditions and exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified; follow proper escalation proceduresÂ
-
Partner daily with site operations, transportation, yard services, and customer-facing teams to prioritize multiple tasks and competing demandsÂ
-
Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining a strong customer service mindsetÂ
-
Ensure dock activities align with process guidelines, safety standards, and site SWIs, seeing tasks through to completionÂ
-
Support dock and yard organization in alignment with 7S workplace standardsÂ
-
Conduct regular visual inspections and maintain high observational awareness to identify risks, inefficiencies, or potential delaysÂ
-
Use Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite tools to track activity, communicate updates, and document issuesÂ
-
Provide coverage and operational support to site leadership and Lead peers as neededÂ
What you need to succeed at GXO:Â Â Â Â
At a minimum, you'll need:Â Â Â Â

Experience working in a warehouse, distribution, dock, yard, or transportation-related environmentÂ
-
Demonstrated ability to coordinate dock or yard activities in a fast-paced operationÂ
-
Working knowledge of trailer docking, release procedures, and trailer anatomyÂ
-
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and across varied terrainÂ
-
Proven ability to follow defined processes, safety standards, and escalation protocolsÂ
-
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage in daily customer-facing and cross-functional interactionsÂ
-
Comfort using Microsoft Office 365 and/or Google Suite applicationsÂ
It'd be great if you also have:Â Â Â Â

Previous experience in a lead, coordinator, or informal leadership roleÂ

Exposure to safety programs, yard management systems (YMS), or WMS environmentsÂ
-
Experience supporting or enforcing safe work practices and stop-work authorityÂ

Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with basic hand tools and dock equipmentÂ
This job requires the ability to:Â

Work extended time outdoors in varying weather conditionsÂ

Stand, walk, and traverse uneven surfaces throughout the shift  Â

Maintain situational awareness in a high-traffic dock and yard environmentÂ

Support a flexible schedule as business needs requireÂ

Carry objects 3-5 feet weighing up to 50lbs, routinelyÂ

Stand for prolonged periods of time >4 hoursÂ

Walk continuously more than 10,000 steps (4-5) miles per dayÂ

Bend, stoop, squat, twist, push and pull objects of various shapes and sizes in the team lift. Â

Tolerate hot and cold work environments Â

Ability to use powered and/or manual lifting equipment to assist with the team safety moving inventory in accordance with established protocols and safety guidelinesÂ
