At the Hello Cafe, tucked behind Cedar Circle's iconic farmstand, we say "Hello! Welcome in" for a reason. Creating a welcoming experience for every guest is at the heart of what we do. Our baristas are friendly, guest-forward team players who love coffee and value connection with our community. For us, it is not only about serving up delicious coffee. Baristas are also part of the farmstand team and offer support when the cafe is slow and all other cafe duties are in line.

Responsibilities
General duties include:
- Ringing up customers and processing payments
- Providing exceptional service to our community; greeting guests, making them feel welcome, and making genuine connections
- Answering questions about the products we sell, our growing practices, CSA, education programs, and farm policies. Directing guests to other departments or administrative staff to get their questions answered in a timely manner.
- Maintaining a clean and presentable workspace
- Following safety protocols
- Working collectively and collaboratively with fellow farmstand crew members and the rest of the Cedar Circle team
Hello Café duties include:
- Providing exceptional service to our guests and making genuine connections
- Preparing hot and cold coffee and espresso drinks, teas, and lemonades
- Basic Barista flow; find grind, pull a shot accurately, steam milk properly
- Serving baked goods and knowing about the different offerings; communicating with the Farm Kitchen to keep the café well stocked
- Ensuring signage and pricing are accurate and up-to-date
- Setting up the next shift for success
- Making batched recipes
- Stocking and keeping track of inventory
Farmstand assisting duties include:
- Restocking produce displays; culling to ensure we have top quality produce on display; moving totes of produce from building to building
- Helping guests locate items
- Receiving and stocking merchandise
- Assisting guests with CSA signups, including filling out CSA paperwork and taking payments. Setting up and adding value to CSA Cards, with the help of Leads and the Farm Retail Manager.
- Assisting with answering phones, transferring calls, and distributing messages
Qualifications
- Basic organizational skills and attention to detail especially when making drinks, stocking ingredients in the café, maintaining displays, and completing other routine tasks.
- Interest in learning about coffee, tea, baked goods, and farm products in order to prepare drinks, serve food, and answer guest questions.
- Comfort following established procedures for food handling, café service, and workplace safety (training provided).
- Ability to multitask and maintain organization during busy periods
- Willingness to learn and use a point-of-sale system to ring up purchases and process payments (training provided).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment.
- Ability to lift and carry items such as crates, milk jugs, and merchandise (up to ~40 lbs), move between buildings, and remain on your feet for extended periods.
Helpful but not required:
- Experience preparing coffee or espresso drinks, or working in a café environment.
- Previous customer service or retail experience; experience using a cash register or point-of-sale system.
- Familiarity with coffee, produce, cooking ingredients, gardening, or local agriculture.
Availability
The café is open 8am–2pm daily, and Barista shifts are 7am–3pm. This position can be either part-time or full-time. Part-time hours begin at a minimum of 16 hours per week (2 days), and a full-time schedule can be 32–40 hours per week (4-5 days). Hours are agreed upon at hire and remain consistent week to week. The ability to work at least one weekend day is preferred.
Compensation
This is a seasonal position, 16-40 hours per week from Late April through the end of October. The Barista position is an hourly position with benefits including paid personal leave, fresh produce, a 20% discount at our farmstand and cafe, a 403(b) retirement plan with a 5% employer safe harbor match (students not eligible), and access to an employee assistance program. Salary is $15-17/hr, depending on work experience, plus tips.
In this position, cash tips are distributed at the end of the shift. Credit card tips are calculated by hours spent in the cafe, distributed amongst any additional help, then added to your paycheck. Credit card tips range from $3/hour to $14/hr depending on the day, how busy we are, and the level of service provided.
