Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Field Project Manager Position 

We’re looking for a driven Field Project Manager with strong financial, technical, and safety skills to lead pipeline projects that support system integrity, regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and long‑term business growth. In this role, you will assemble and lead cross‑functional teams, manage financial and project controls, deliver all phases of project execution, and ensure that safety, compliance, and documentation standards are rigorously met. 

In addition to strong project delivery capabilities, this position requires someone who excels in project controls. The successful candidate will demonstrate robust financial discipline, with the ability to develop accurate cost estimates, proactively manage budgets, tightly control spending, forecast project financials, and delivery on-time projects with confidence and precision.

What You Get to Do: 

Project Leadership & Execution 

  • Lead cross-functional internal employee and external consulting/contractor teams to deliver maintenance and construction projects that support system integrity and business objectives. 

  • Develop project scope, schedules, budgets, forecasts, and execution plans. 

  • Develop detailed project plans, design packages, specifications, and project documentation. 

  • Track cost, schedule, and quality performance; escalate and resolve issues proactively. 

 

Financial Management 

  • Develop detailed cost estimates and cash-flow projections. 

  • Forecast monthly expenditures with accuracy and accountability. 

  • Monitor and control committed and actual costs to ensure alignment with forecast and budget. 

  • Prepare detailed financial reporting and closing documentation. 

  • Validate invoices for accuracy, proper coding, and timely processing. 

  • Apply strong financial acumen to evaluate options, support decision-making, and optimize project value. 

 

Safety & Compliance 

  • Take personal ownership of safety for all project personnel. 

  • Promote nearmiss reporting and conduct in-field safety inspections (Safe Work Checks.) 

  • Ensure all project work meets company and regulatory requirements, completing assigned work within compliance deadlines. 

 

Documentation & Reporting 

  • Ensure high-quality and timely project documentation, including Survey123 forms, field records, and retention requirements. 

  • Capture lessons learned and share insights across the organization. 

 

Communication & Collaboration 

  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with all project stakeholders. 

  • Lead project kickoffs, status meetings, and contractor coordination sessions. 

  • Partner with Procurement, Operations, Safety, Engineering, and other internal teams; manage relationships with contractors and external partners. 

 

Emergency Response & Project Support 

  • Maintain HAZWOPER and ICS certifications and lead training and real-world events in the Operations Section. 

  • Support major project development, commissioning, and closeout as needed. 

 

What You Bring to the Table: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, accounting, or technical discipline from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education. 

  • Ideally, 3+ years of Project or Construction Management experience, or 5+ years in Pipeline/Oil/Gas/Energy. Preferably 3 years of Colonial Pipeline experience. 

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time. Travel may include between sites, drive long distances, flights, and response after hours as required. 

  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze cost drivers, forecast expenditures, and manage project budgets. 

  • Solid understanding of industry regulations, inspection standards, safety protocols, and pipeline operations. 

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Hands-on proficiency with computers and smart tablets. 

  • PMP, API, AMPP/NACE, or related industry credentials preferred.

The base compensation range for this role is expected to be: $ 109,437.50 - $148,062.50. A new hire’s compensation may vary within the compensation range provided based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, experience, education, skills, licensures, and certifications. Colonial provides a comprehensive benefits and total rewards package, of which base pay is just one piece.
