Role Description: Optician

Position Overview

The Optician plays a crucial role in assisting patients with eyewear selection, fitting, and adjustments while ensuring exceptional customer service. This position requires expertise in optical products, lens technology, and prescription interpretation to guide patients in making informed eyewear choices that suit their vision needs and lifestyle.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Experience & Customer Service

  • Guide patients in selecting frames and lenses based on prescription, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
  • Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and technologies to ensure optimal vision and comfort.
  • Ensure proper fitting, adjustments, and repairs to enhance eyewear functionality and comfort.

Staff Development & Training

  • Lead and mentor opticians and technicians, fostering a knowledgeable and service-oriented team.
  • Conduct training programs on product updates, lens technologies, and optical best practices.
  • Ensure staff compliance with industry regulations and best practices in vision care.

Prescription & Technical Expertise

  • Interpret prescriptions and recommend appropriate lens designs and materials.
  • Take accurate measurements for pupillary distance, lens placement, and frame adjustments.
  • Dispense eyewear according to optical standards and patients needs (Follow ANSI & NWECP standards).
  • Detailed verification on prescription parameters and lens enchantments.

Customer Service & Sales

  • Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations, HIPAA guidelines, and state licensing requirements for optical services.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure proper documentation for all patient eyewear and contact lens transactions.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements, incorporating new technologies into optical services.
  • Provide outstanding customer service by addressing patient concerns and answering questions about eyewear and contact lenses.
  • Assist with insurance and billing inquiries related to optical products.
  • Promote eyewear solutions tailored to patients' needs while meeting clinic sales goals.

Inventory & Compliance

  • Maintain and manage optical inventory, ensuring a diverse selection of frames and lenses.
  • Ensure compliance with optical regulations, HIPAA guidelines, and clinic policies.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in eyewear technology, and vision care best practices.
